Here is knife I am making for my Stepfather as a gift. He loves guitars and has played with Eric Clapton among others. I figured I would make him something nice. (Also Thanks ALDO for the steel it was the perfect size.)

sorry for the bad pics

Hmmmmmmm, interesting...very interesting. I'm sure if he is a guitar buff he will love it. I like how you have interpereted a guitar into a blade design. I'm assuming this will be a display piece?

PS. I knew "Uncle Aldo" could square you away. Aldo's the man when it comes to steel.

I like it. Maybe you hafta be a guitar-freak to understand.

There's another approach to guitar-related knives, as well... I've seen some custom jobs and also a Buck limited-edition that incorporated these ideas... make a "normal-type" knife and use materials that are common to both high-end blades and high-end instruments for the handle. Such as curly or birdseye maple, rosewood or ebony... fret-wire or nickel/silver spacers... abalone or pearl dots (like fret markers) on the handle... purfling strips for spacers or highlights on the handle... fancy wire or pearl inlays... etc.

I invite anyone who likes art knives to browse the web for pics of custom guitars and fiddles and so forth. There's a lot of amazing work out there, from centuries ago right up to today :)

Can't wait to see this one finished. Love to see guys thinking out of the box! Your stepdad should really like it. Keep us posted.

Great Job.
He will love that one.

Here is one that I made for a custom guitar maker (Robert's Luthiary) to accompany one of his commissions. The scales are curly koa to match the body with ebony and mother of pearl and I used black and white spacers to match his purfling.

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful example of a companion-piece to a custom instrument, Steve! Thank you for sharing.

Gahagan, we're all looking forward to seeing your project completed. Thanks for starting this thread and giving us all a little something different to think about :)

Very Interesting...
I like it, can't wait to see more.
In fact, I'm changing my name to Seymour Blades in honor of that knife.
