Corby Bolt Question??

What is the advantage of using Corby Bolts over pins?? Or is there a reason to use them over pins. Just don't understand why you would use them if your going to bond the scales and Corbys in and then grind the Corbys down?

I have purchased these but have yet to use them. I guess any additional mechanical fastening would be better than smooth pins. Even though they are ground down, the threads are still engaged and the burr from grinding locks them in. Just my 2 cents.

Knives made with thin steel the scales could separate if held bypins and epoxy and pryed with. Scales held by corby bolts may move but will not separate.

I think they're more secure than pins because of the shoulder.

I counter sink the holes in the scale for the shoulder to sit in. It actually bolts the scale the tang, then I grind them down and shape them with the scale.

However, if you're drilling your holes to the same diameter as the largest part of the Corby bolt then they're just decorative.

At least that's my $.02. I'm sure someone with more experience and knowledge will chime in.
