Heres a idea that is perfectly applied! and tested.. But the best part is seeing it in slow motion! Check this out!

Those saws are very cool, in theory. A couple of my woodworking friends tested one of the first ones after one of the guys purchased one... the thing is pretty cool but has some bugs that they have yet to work out. "Green" lumber sets off the mechanism as does foreign metal lodged in your work pieces. Though it may be thought as uncommon, lumber is quite notorious for having staples, nails, brads and any number of metal pieces. Also, the brake is quite expensive. But again, the thing is freaking cool.

I can see how it would or could be a issue with it being set off by foreign stuff in the wood.. But just thought is was too cool not to link it. Its the first time I had seen this stuff today! :)

As a cabinet man for 15 years, I dont trust it. You just have to pay attention to what you are doing. And remember the 10 rules. I still have all of mine! I have seen more damage done by kick backs than the blade.

I saw that on TV a while back. Can remember the show, but it was cool. They first tried it out on a wiener. Then found a few volunteers to try it out on the real thing...which begs to question who the real wiener was! LOL

I don't won't to be the guy who buys the first one that fails!!

I understand all the guys who are saying "don't trust it". Having said that, raise you hand if you've never had a BONEHEAD moment. I like it! :3:

+1. The biggest issue with power tools is complacency. The day that you feel comfortable enough to let your guard down and forget the basics, is the day that you should walk away from them. I keep a large sign on my wall that reads, " Complacency Kills." As with most folks who have served our nation, this was a how we began and ended all mission briefs.

That's awesome--if you trust it to work right all the time, every time. Put a couple dozen hours on the saw in a home shop where it gets all kinds of wood debris in it--a lot of guys I know don't cleant their equipment after every use--then see if it works every time.

It is indeed a very cool concept, but no substitute for the safety tool in between your ears. With proper technique, properly set up tools, and a little common sense, in theory, you should never even need something like that.

Unfortunately, most people lack one, two, or even all three of the aforementioned criteria.

The thing I always found interesting was that they always use a hotdog to test it. If it was up to me, the inventor would be demoing the unit with his own finger. If they don't trust it on their fingers, why should I trust it on mine?

Lets just say in concept "its cool"! But I agree in use, I would not count on anything like this and agree with you guys. Safety is something that is controlled by the user 99.9% of the time! Proper set up, and feed rate as well as a little common sense goes way further then even this cool device.

Im often asked what tool is the most dangerous in my shop.. And have seen threads about this very thing.. The answer I give is this, "In my shop, the most dangerous tool is the one your using at the moment!" Compliance or stupidity will cost you dearly on any and every power tool!
