Where can I find a contact wheel with an opening large enought to put on my surface grinder? I would like to do a conversion to belt but cant find a contact wheel to fit.

It's gona have to be "custom made"....you won't find something "on the shelf" to fit a surface grinder. I highly recommend SunRay.

SunRay will make them however you want....the person I work with is Shane. Keep in mind when dealing with SunRay, you MUST be SPECIFIC on EVERYTHING you want when it comes to ordering....their main business is as a military contractor, so if something is not specified, you won't get it! That means EVERY measurement of the wheel you want, the type of material (aluminum or steel), wheel hardness, width, diameter, exact hub hole size, offset, the whole thing. I tell you this because a couple of years ago I recommended Sunray to an individual, who ordered a 12" contact wheel, then raised cain when it wasn't balanced when he got it.....when I asked him if he had specified that it be balanced, the response was "Well No! They should have known to do that!"
No! If it's not specified, they don't do it. I suppose it's a bit easier for me to understand, because of all my years in the military.....but the bottom line is, if you don't specify it, they don't do it.

So make sure you have your measurements, talk with Shane, and keep asking him if there are any other measurements he needs. Just don't take ANYTHING for granted, and all will be good.

I've never used a serrated wheel but read that they can impart a pattern in your grind depending on what pattern the serration is.

Any thoughts on this . I want convert mine also.

Contact Rubber makes a better wheel than Sunray.

I love Sunray, and use them to make all of the wheels for my Übergrinder, but I have Contact rubber make them for the surface grinders...

I have done 4 or 5 now, and they make a NICE, balanced wheel...
