I want to design a capeing knife to go with the skinners I make. I'm not a hunter so I'm looking for recommendations for blade size and shape. All suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks
Tim

A caping knife can be a wide variety of different shapes my friend is a world class taxidermist and he prefers a very very small almost like a minature drop point only 1.25 inch long 1/2 wide blade. This is very very small by most standards but what he likes. I have made him a nice 3.23 long 1.35 wide drop point and he wants smaller. Just an idea . kellyw

Thanks Kelly,
Most of the replys call for 2.75 to 3" long by .75 wide. Pointy end with top .75" also sharpened. Think I will try that first.

Like already stated, a caping knife is very small. Needs to be very small, super sharp, and a good point for detailed cutting. Most Taxidermist do use disposable scapels. You can look at Knives of Alaska and see their caping knife for a good example.
