I cut this blank out a while back and have worked on it periodically. 1080 with a 9” OAL. Belt sanded to 120 then hand sanded from 120 to 400. I’ve been working really hard on my hand sanding and this is definitely my best to date. Still not perfect but I’m very happy with it! The handle is black G10 with red G10 liners, red G10 pins and a stainless lanyard pin. I can’t wait to get it completed!

I super hate hand sanding and do very little of it, however, I have much better luck going up higher in grit on the grinder. I think the last couple I did I went to X65 Norax, which is roughly 220 grit. But they finish a bit finer than their grit equivalent would suggest. Start hand sanding at 220 grit, and it really takes very little effort to get the belt scratches out.

I really appreciate your comment and suggestion! I have tried using a 220 belt before but I tend to get a lot of chatter unless I’m using a wheel or just slack. Do you or have you ever experienced that?

Yeah, you will on some belts. That's where the Norax structured abrasive belt comes in. They run so much smoother and will give you a whole new level of flatness. They are spendy, but if you only use them for the final few passes to refine your finish before switching to hand sanding, they last a loooong time. Try a x100, x65, and x45 to start. Totally worth the money.
