We use a lot of cable. Its easy stick cable together but another thing to weld it up tight & right! Ive found out the hard way. I have about 20' of 1" xx plowshare cable that is around 1084-1095 in chemistry. Hardens wonderfully in oil but is a bit dirty so we have to clean it well before welding.
We burn ours out before welding. Then I use more welding passes than most people use.. I also weld mine in a swage block which is easier than welding on an anvil.
Weld withseveral passes and make sure its clean. Takes practice to get good clean cable damascus consistantly..
