This is my latest knife, 1095 steel. It's also the largest knife I've made to date. The Pins are stainless tubes with peened brass rivet inserts. The scales are tulip wood, which is a very nice wood to work with. OAL is 11.5" with a 6" blade. The widest part of the blade is ~2".

I'm sure I'm not doing entirely correctly. I'm on a learning curve! I normalized it twice and then brought it to non-magnetic and maintained that temperature for about 3-4 minutes and then quenched in granola oil. I tempered it at around 415 for an hour (twice.).
 
I was thinking of trying some of that it's less expensive than the 01 I'm using. Figured I could afford to make more blades as long as it didn't need some special equipment to heat treat it.
 
You can get 1084 at the NJ Steel Baron. I just ordered some there myself and it's very reasonable and many say it's the best for beginners.
