BUK (Big Ugly Knife)

Here is one of my latest knives. I have been thinking about building something different and this is different. The blade is forged from 5160 the guard is mild steel and the handle is cotton cord soaked in epoxy, the overall length is 21". The blade finish is simply etched three times with very little polishing between. My end goal is a tough rough use ugly work horse.

Well it looks like you accomplished your goal except the ugly part.
Have you done any cutting or choping with it? I think that handle material would be rough on the hands,is it? Or is it comfortable?

Brad,
The next time you want to make an "UGLY" knife, feel free to contact me, as it is apparent that you can't make an ugly knife! I, on the the other hand am an accomplished Ugly Knife Maker! I would be happy to help you with making a knife ugly! Although, my very best (of my ugly knives) were not exactly planned to be ugly, they just turned out that way, and boy are the AWESOME(LY UGLY)! Though none have seen the light of day, I have kept one, as an example of what NOT to do, a reminder of sorts, to PLAN! AND FOLLOW THE PLAN! The Truly Sad part about that knife is that I used a premium piece of Mo. Walnut Burl that I got from Don Hanson about 3 or 4 years ago! Wood that pretty deserved more respect!

Your knife turned out really nice, maybe not pretty, but 'Users' aren'tsupposed to be all gussied up....well, unless you just really like to gussy up knife that doesn't need it or shouldn't have it,...like me, heck man I put a Hamon on my EDC!

But seriously, this knife is super nice, definitely NOT ugly. I have been looking at different cord types out there, not. Nothing fancy, just whatever I find where ever I am, I came up with an idea to try to use it for a handle, I had not considered soaking it in epoxy, thanks for reminding me of this, great job! Rex
