I went home for lunch. I wanted to get the next part done so I could work on this after work. Here is a new tool. It is called an edge slicker. It compacts/shapes/slicks leather edges using friction/heat.

You use it by placing it on the edge of the leather and rubbing back and forth. Like this.

You get a much more defined edge. I am not all that good at this. Some makers get their edges to look like glass. Mine are more like good enough.

I will be able to stitch the snap in place tonight. I also put satin sheen finish on the snap and front cover. I want it dry before completing the final weaving of blue suede/copper beads.

Just letting them get good and dry.

Another project for tonight is creating the welt. Not the best picture but you should be able to understand the concept. The best part is that it all gets covered up with lacing eventually.

I wet my edges and it make a big difference Dennis and also made a slicker to go in the drill press which takes all of the effort out of it and I get a much better finish on the edge than I ever did with the hand slicker

I have been wanting to make a slicker for my drill press. I just have not had the time. There are dozens to look at on the internet/youtube.

A new tool. Chisel points. I just started using these for making holes for stitching. I have used the wheel and a drill press or dremel. I love chisel points. Some won’t. I’m good with that.

Just line it up and hit it with your mallet.

All the way around. I switched to a two point on the curve.

After holes are drilled- saddle stitch using two needles. In -In- tighten. Done.

The inside stitches will get covered up and never seen again.

Flap glued down. On to the welt.

Time to roll the liner. Start with a groove at 3/4 inch. If you want a narrower roll go with 1/4, 1/2, whatever.

Cut the groove. Leave 3/4 inch on each side. Because I am braiding and I do not want to hit these stitches later.

Use the chisel points and stitch.

Barge cement on the outside of each down to the 3/4 inch groove/stitch line. I forgot, this one is out of order. Should be before the stitching. My bad!

Once it is stitched, just roll it over. Make sure it lays flat and is long enough to cover the entire front panel. I measured it earlier-we are good.
