hey guys

i bought a dewalt variable speed bandsaw, D28770

i havent recieved it yet but i want to be ready, what kind of blade do i need and whats the teeth count? will be using it for steel cutting and handle material

use it at lowest speed right?

also anybody has a general idea for the stand and plate? image? how to make it or set it up?

thanks!

If you want to spend a little money, I hear great reviews on the SWAG off road stands:

I usually use an 18-24 TPI blade. I just buy whatever brand my local hardware carries and use them until they're dull.

Personally, I just screwed a piece of 1/4" steel plate to the squaring bracket on my PortaBand. I then mounted it to my work bench by banding it to a vertical 2x4 that's screwed and clamped to the table.

Thanks Andrew

I havent seen mine yet so i guess will plan when its here, but your way seems simple enough, next comes the plate i would rest work on

I would rather invest in good blades, but i guess maybe get couple of cheaper ones firat until i get used to it
But no suggestion on material? Bimetal, carbide? Anything?

Thanks again

Shokr,
You want a Bimetal bandsaw blade.I have no idea what brands are available there? You should be safe with any USA, German, British or any other non chinese made brand in a 14-18 Tpi. That's teeth Per Inch. or a equivalent in millimeters.

I use a 18TPI currently.

Don't bother with the cheap blades. The machine will come with one.
Bi-Metal means it has carbide or another hard metal put on the teeth of the flexible band saw blade.

I don't know your size but the company "Laguna" that makes great wood working and saw blades has them for sale on ebay and direct. I have one on my metal band saw now. I'm sure you can get them to make them to size.

If they won't ship it to you let me know and you can buy them and have them shipped to me and I will ship them to you.

buying the blades online would cost me quite a lot

found local supplier for blades, but he told me the size i wanted isnt available, so he can make me custom sized blades, anybody has any experience with those? good? bad?

thanks

He most likely is just taking a larger Bimetal blade and cutting it down.
If he welds them right you are good to go!
They are all welded from a larger pieces of bandsaw blade stock to start.

Thanks Laurence

He showed me, he has long rolls of open ended blades, sold by the meter

So i guess its worth the shot :)

Lenox m42 blades are upper tough. Works well. There are 5 different tooth counts some alternating that are quite effective.

Thanks PT doc, i already bought dewalt set, 14/18. Hope they work
If not will check the ones you mention out :)
