Bocote wood finish

I would like to finish my bocote wood knife handle with " TRU OIL GUN STOCK FINISH" but it does not dry and stays tacky. Any suggestions ?

Bocote is NOT a good candidate for Tru-Oil. Bocote is naturally very oily. My recommendation is to finish it down to 800+ grit, then give it a light buff with pink no-scratch, and a good coat of paste wax. If you apply Tru-Oil, it will never completely cure on Bocote.

I work with bacote a lot and have a simple fix for ya. On cocobolo , bacote or any other oily wood you need to a sealer coat or it wont dry. Simple superglue makes a great sealer and fills the pores as well. Use a nitrile glove and smear it on thick as the wood will suck it up. let cure and sand it flat. add more if you need to fill the pores. Use the finish of your choice after that.

If doing a lot of handles or larger projects a conversion varnish like Fullerplast or an epoxy such as marine epoxy work very well and leave a extremely tough finish. I use fullerplast when I seal and spray turkey calls and longbows.
