I was finally able to get this build started, this is my go to skinner/EDC. 1084 steel with a vine filework on the handle. Already have it heat treated and sanded to 400 grit. Its ready for the scales.

I wanted to use my chainsaw shavings scale material but I recently used my last set, so I decided to make more for this project.
So, I combined a mix of cypress, pecan and walnut to give it a good mix of colors!

I mixed up the resin, poured it in the ziploc bag, mixed it up and put it in the mold. And wala! A few hours later, beautiful block to make knife scales!!!

I cut 4" off the block and sliced 2, 3/8" thick slabs off for the scales and epoxied white liners on them. In my opinion the white liners help bring out the filework. I cleaned up the outside of the scales and put a little clear on them to get a sneak peak at how they are going to look. What do you think????

I like it. Looks pretty cool!

Knife hanfle is shaped! Working on getting the finish coating done, just need to sand it down and polish it out. Now time to start thinking about the sheath.

I decided to try a sheath with a snake skin insert. My daughter found a complete shed skin fron a 6' black snake in my yard. So, I did it!
Now, I hope the knife fits!!!!!

Uggggg....well, the sheath is a fail... I wet formed the sheath and cut the thread, I somehow missed the welt when I sewed it, and the shed snakeskin is to fragile, notice the lost spots....

Time to regroup...

I am sorry, can't believe another month has gone by. Just been busy with life. I am trying to get ahold of a copperhead skin, the brown colors look awesome against a brown sheath. If i can't get by this weekend, I will just use a prairie rattler skin that I have.

Here we go, round 2... I cut out the leather insert. Removed the scales from the snakeskin. Rehydrated it in water to get it pliable and glued it to the insert using titebond III.
