Anyone seen wagon wheel iron like this?

A friend gave me some big wagon wheel iron and of course i figured it to be steel or wrought as usual
but when i cut a chunk out and ground a bevel then etched it this is what i found . It seems to be two
types of metal welded together now this is new to me but i was wondering if anyone else has seen this before?
This stuff is 3" wide and a 1/2" thick.
Thanks Bob

I have some similar. Have never done anything with it. Not sure if mine is welded like yours, but I cut and bended it and didn't get the typical wought, break.

I'll try and locate pics.

I've never etched anything ,will vinagar work?
I posted these on "I FORGE IRON" a long time ago but nobody knew anything about it.

Mark mine looked like mono steel until it was etched .I'm not sure if vinegar will work i used ferric cloride. Are both pieces in the second pic from the same wheel? Give the vineger a try you will have to leave it for a while i think.

Two different wheels.
What is momo steel?
I'll go polish a piece and put it in some vinegar and see what happens.

I polished a piece and put in the vinegar.

Do I let it set then pull it out and polish again or no need to polish?

I soaked this overnight, not sure what I'm looking at, definitely not as defined as yours.
