I always think long and hard about shape, never really aesthetics or fashions just intended use. On the drawing board to card then to mild steel template profiles.
The longer one is most unusual for myself because I don't like recurve design much but it's got just a midges of recurve just for slicing a tad deeper into a cut. And too help in skinning while keeping that centre point clear of the flesh.
