Another etching question

I have a super etch-o-matic I would like to use for etching my knives. Is anybody using one of these? Would this unit work good enough for knifemaking? I don't know anything about etching so I don't know if it will work or not. Ernie (The stencil guy) said the small etch-o-matic will not work, however mine is their midsized unit. I don't want to buy a good stencil and not be able to mark my knives.

Ernie knows and will not steer you wrong,go with whatever he says. Etching on a knife is not as simple as it seems,like all other parts of knife making it has to be done properly with the proper equipment if you want it to turn out professional looking. You are going to ruin some stencils and ruin some etches, and have to erase them and experiment with different voltages and etch times to get things just right. Go for it!
