The Oregon Show a couple weeks ago produces a student for some damascus training at my shop this week. His name is Peter Serkov. Peter was born in Siberia and his family migrated to the Bay area when he was 18 years old. It was interesting to hear his story of struggles to get established in America. He speaks better Russian than english but we still had "good time" and made some feather and a killer mosaic set of blades.
He also brought a 5160 blade with him to test for his American Bladesmith Society Jouneyman performance test aka "Cut N Bend" and passed with flying colors. He had never cut a free hanging 1" rope before and took some time to practice that before the test began.
Congratulations my friend Peter Serkov.
