A word (or two) about Grinders

I have been thinking about this a lot lately and felt that I should post it:

I think Tracy came up with a great idea when he designed the No Weld Grinder using, basically, square tubing.

I had been wanting a better grinder for quite a while and was trying to figure out where to come up with the money and how to get rid of the old one.

I was at Steven Fowler’s and saw his grinder. I was impressed that he had built it. He said that he had used the NWG plans. If I had not seen Steven’s I would not have considered building my own grinder.
I bought the plans and talked to Tracy. I started gathering parts and built it. I was surprised how well the build went and really about how well it tracked.

Now to the purpose of this thread: I believe that anyone can get these plans and build a good grinder.

I have made numerous changes in the basic plans and have rebuilt the grinder at least 5 times, each time making modifications and, I believe, improvments.

The reason that I offer to do the workshops is:
1. I think that I can save money for the participant because I buy all of the materials to build numerous grinders with no waste of materials. Of course, you may be able to dumpster dive or find drops and not have to buy the 24’ sticks.
2. The participant benefits from my experience and past mistakes. Further he gets the modifications that I have come up with.
3. The participant saves time because I do all of the cutting, drilling, tapping, grinding, de-burring, etc.
4. By the way, my workshop grinders are welded and the participant does not have to buy all of the straps, bolts, nuts and washers.

I believe that Bader, KMG and others build good grinders.
I have seen Polar Bear Forge’s “Grinder in a Box” (GIB) and several other grinder kits as well as grinders built by the user.
Now Tracy and Dave have come up with another grinder kit that looks to be the cat’s meow.
I believe that they are all very good machines and do the job intended, when properly constructed and used.

I’m just another guy trying to help people that want some help getting a good grinder and save some money. There are lots of good choices out there, mine is just one alternative.
