A mini skinner

Von Gruff

KNIFE MAKER
I got an order for a mini skinner done to his own supplied pattern so ground it up this morning so I could get it heat treated with the other blades that were to be done today. A very small knife with a 3 inch blade and 3 1/2 inch handle which will be red deer antler

This isn't my design but there is something quiet nice about the blade shape so I reworked it a little to make a pattern with a 3 1/4 inch blade of the same shape but a fraction deeper with a little less recurve and a 3 3/4 in handle. It will make a very handy EDC/skinner. I will post a pic of the pattern of my take on this mini skinner tomorrow.

Thanks guys. It is the clients design but I do like the blade shape as it has all the elements for a very usable knife in multiple situations from rabbits to deer.

This is my take on what a mini skinner should be like. The 3 1/4 in blade is just enough to do cover most chores in the field and the handle sits comfortable on four fingers

I am going to offer this mini skinner in two versions. One as shown will be the "Compact Mini" and anoter with a stadard sized handle will be the "Classic Mini". I will post a comparitive pic later in the day.

So for those who prefer a standard sized handle I will do the mini skinner in two versions.
The top one is the compact mini skinner and the lower one is the classic mini skinner.

Both have the same 3 1/4 in blade with the only difference being the length of the handle

This is the compact mini skinner in hand. This is an eminently suitable knife for a younger hunter but still usable throughout their hunting life .

I really like the belly on that one and the longer handle look comfy to my eye. Waiting to see it completed.

This one is all finished now apart from sharpening and the sheath that will be done tomorrow. Thought it might be a little limiting in hand but have been surprised at just how usable it will be although my slightly longer compact and classic mini skinners wil sit a little better in hand.
