You should expect to see some cosmetic changes here soon. We are shrinking the header down and will be eliminating some skins. The number of skins we have is creating some issues. This will mean nearly the end of the world to a few of you as your favorite skin disappears. It will be OK...change is good.
We are also repositioning some of the banner ads. It's a fact of life advertising helps carry the load on the server expense, software and maintenance of the place. As we reposition the google adwords banners to be more visible, we are also setting things up where paid members will not see the banner ads. Membership has it's privileges. The exception will be the "local" banner at the top of the page. We use the top of for announcements, the USAknifemaker.com site and we also sell banner ads on a local basis (not through google adwords like the other banners) to those business/individuals that want direct advertising to KnifeDogs.
Once we get that done, we'll peek under the hood and see what else we can freshen up.
VB bulletin, (this software) is considered by most in the forum industry as the best out there. We are using release 4x something. VB released version 5 nearly a year ago. We bought the upgrade with the intention of moving up to it but the v5 version has been such a disaster with major code rewrite we held off. After a year, it doesn't look any better for v5 so we are sprucing things up around here with v4 until v5 improves or we switch forum software entirely. Vbulletin has really put their foot into it and several other forum software authors are hustling to take market share from Vbulletin. This can only be good for all of us.
We opened up registration to be automated recently. We had it set so that any free email accounts had to be manually added. This will let some spammers in we will have to swat down. If you see a spam post, click on the little triangle in the corner of the post to "report post".
