A Different Blade Gone Wrong

I decided to do something a little different today and got this one cut out and did a little forging on it. Not sure how it's going to turn out :)

Gone Wrong - So a word of caution and something I never thought about - Murphy's Law- make sure your cooling bucket (for the grinder) is covered up when forging and moving hot blades around your shop. I had this blade in my tongs and turned to grab something off the bench and I hit or bumped something and the hot blade fell in my cooling bucket!!. I don't see any cracks (yet) and the blade may have cooled enough not have cracked but I'm pretty bummed. I had more than an hour in this blade and it may be lost but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It did harden it though, so I'm having to anneal the blade.

Dang ... that two lessons in one day... the scales and now the water quench. That’s some bad luck or maybe good look. This blades looks good that’s for sure

How do you anneal it fire the forge up and bring blade to critical then turn off forge and let it cool, or use something else?? Also what are the 2 elongated slots on the blade for??

Hey 07. I heated the blade up to non-magnetic and put it in a bucket of vermiculite. Same as with files, so I'm hoping it'll work for this.
As far as the slots..............I saw that on another blade and thought it looked neat so I put them in mine. So I'd say esthetics or more like character.

I know! Just when you think you got it going the gremlin comes along and proves you wrong.
I have to admit, I work to fast and quickly most times. I need to slow down and think things through a little more, but that's what makes me, me.

That's cool!! I had someone ask me why I made my Choils so big, my answer because I like them like that!!
