A Couple of Small Hunters

Beautiful and very well thought out. I have a Lignum Vitae carving mallet that is a greenish color, no where near as pretty as your wood. I'm wondering if these are the Argentinian Lignum Vitae I've heard about.
Super strong wood.

Looking good. When did you start using 52100 to make your damascus? One of the first knives I made I had used lignum vitia scales. It looked beautiful but by the morning the scales broke in a number of pieces. Haven't used it since.

Ray I have been using 52100 for some time. It seems to work well with the 15N20 and tends to be darker than 1080.
I sure hope these scales don't break :(

I've never used it for knife scales but I have a mallet made of lignum vitae and several vintage small round rope guides (the kind used in sailing) and have semi-abused them and the rope guides don't even show appreciable wear after years of use outdoors left exposed in all kinds of weather. It was also used as a bearing/seal on boat/ship drive shafts where they exit to the propeller. Tough stuff.
It's not typical for this wood to fail. I wouldn't be too concerned about the scales pictured failing, they look solid.
