First try at stainless San Mai, did homework through different forums. Went with Ed Caffrey ' s recipe, tig welded pieces together and used air hammer with drawing dies to help distort layers. Need to profile a little more then heat treat.
Not gonna lie, I am really getting a soft spot for san mai just because they look so frikin cool.
That looks like the perfect proportions for a good useful blade.
Did a little more grinding on the tang and clip, ready for heat treat. I saw some of the hunters Karl Andersen Is making in stainless San Mai so emailed him to ask how he set up his steel. I used what I had on hand, being my first attempt figured if it didn't weld I would get some 420 and try again. Thank you Karl for your assistance.
Are you planning on drilling any holes in it? If so please let me know how it goes, I had some issues on an earlier billet that ended up scrapped and I have not gotten another welded up yet.
