    2x72 Surface Grinder

I cover mine with a layer of masking tape. The tape wipes off easily. I also blow it off with my air compressor before I switch the blade. Mine does not have an off switch for the magnet. It's a pain to get the blade off.

Underlayment would work great because it's thin

    Patterns, Templates, Storing, and Marking

I use either wood or thin sheet metal for my templates. The glue is not holding due to the heat. I use a sharpie to draw on the material. Some people use a scribe to mark their lines. I haven't had great success with that so I stick with the sharpie. That being said, I don't make folders...

    1084 heat treat help

I've had good luck with NJSB 1084. It's about all I use. I do stock removal and follow their heat treat recommendations which includes 3 normalizing cycles. I've broken several pieces and the grain looks great.

    Walker/TKroenlein KITH

The retention clip that I use has to be put on with eyelets. I add a 3rd layer of Kydex to allow for this. The metal piece in the picture is the template that creates the space for the eyelet. I tape the 2 main pieces of the sheath are taped together with the knife inserted and then the 3rd...

    Makers Mark Stencils Comparison

So I started with a new stencil a few weeks ago. I am very careful pulling off the tape and clean it thoroughly after each use. I just used it for the 10th time and it still looks as good as it did when I started with it.

    2021 KITH is here.

I'm willing to be in a group of 3. If I may offer a solution for the group of 3. #1 makes for #2, #2 makes for #3, and #3 makes for #2. They can still collaborate the same way. This way no one is doubling up on the work.

    Quick easy Hamon

I appreciate you taking the time to show your process in detail. My best hamon was purely accidental. Then ones I have tried to do have failed miserably. Definitely a learning curve.

    Quick easy Hamon

Question for the group. As someone who is very new to hamons, I don't understand the discussion on thick v/s thin. Thinking out loud here, if the goal of the clay is to slow the cooling process to create the hamon, why wouldn't thicker be better? Wouldn't it add more time to cool? This...

    I have to brag!

Thank you. It's his variation of a template we use. To clarify, this is his second knife doing a stonewashed finish. I think he's made somewhere around 10 or 12 knives at this point.

    I have to brag!

1084 steel, G-10 handles and roughly 8 1/2"- 9" long. This is the second one he has done with a stone washed finished.

    I have to brag!

This knife and sheath was made by my 16 year old son Kaleb. He is a new member on this forum and goes by K Walker. He has been watching, learning, and practicing for a couple years now and he is making great strides. Just super proud of the work he is producing. I am trying to get him to...

    Makers Mark Stencils Comparison

What do you use to get the sticky residue off the stencil that the tape leaves? Ive tried Windex and soapy water, and it doesn't remove it. I go back and forth between painters tape and electrical tape. I haven't figured out which one I like best
