WTB Jantz Grinding Fixture w/elevator thingy

Like the title says, I'm looking for the Jantz Supply grinding fixture/Jig. I basically need it for the parts to make it into something else, so well-used is fine by me. :) Thanks!

Blotchy ferric chloride treatment with 1095

That is decarb. Grind or sand it down some more and you'll be fine. :)

My first try with 1095 and differential hardening

Leave the wash off. Unless you're dipping in water, there isn't much need.

Ht'ing W-2 and Keeping the hamon off the EDGE!!!

Weird that it falls off towards the tip. Are you moving the blade from oven to quenchant fast enough? You've got about a second to move it between the two. I'm thinking the tip started to lose some heat before it got the quenchant. Also remember that if you're using cold tongs to get the...

Ht'ing W-2 and Keeping the hamon off the EDGE!!!

Is it a fixed- blade and are you heating up the tang too? What kind of grind, edge-thickness, etc? What are you quenching in? Some pics would be great --

    First japanese tanto WIP

Definitely re-heat treat it. You're putting too much work into something to not have it how you like it. No extra thermal cycles needed. Just slap on some clay and have at it again.

What do i need to get started in oil quenching??

Definitely use Parks 50 if you can find it. As far as satanite goes, check out Ellis refractory. I was having some weird reaction to the KG stuff - it was like cutting open an onion when I used it.

    First peened slippie!

Thanks all! The clay isn't used to create the line, but mainly to "coerce" it into final shape. The grind of your blade, the temps you use, the thickness, etc. will dictate where the hamon will go.

    Amber stag finishing

Good call. "Icky" is definitely the right word for it. Kinda embarrassing walking around with brown stain on your hand. :15:

    First peened slippie!

Finished this one the other day. I've definitely invested more time and effort into these things then I really should have! Big thanks to all of you that have took the time to put together tutorials! This one is .100 1095 with lightening strike carbon fiber. :)

    Amber stag finishing

I had a stag round amber dyed at Culpeppers and I'm not sure how to finish it. Every time I touch it I get a little color off of it to my hands and I definitely can't send it to the customer like that. What do you all do with the stuff?

Thanks Stan - that is what I was looking for, but none of my search words seemed to do the trick. :) Denny -- thank you very much!

peening over carbon fiber -- collar?

I know I've seen this before, but I don't know what to search for so none of my forum searches game me answers. How do you all go about peening the pivot on slipjoints without bolsters? Some sort of collar?

So what makes a flipper a flipper?

Ed is correct -- the detent plays a huge part in making a good flipper.

    Snap shut?

Been looking at every tutorial in here and on the net! Definitely finding the right geometry on the tang has been my toughest challenge. Thanks for the drawing! I think I've been having too long a distance between my kickstop and the tang.

    Swayback Wharncliffe How To

Thanks -- I'll be watching for that to come around. I peened my first today, but I think I peened too hard because now it doesn't want to open or close worth a damn!

    Swayback Wharncliffe How To

Would you mind if I made a slipjoint indicator-holder-thingy like you? I have to make a few slippies and I think it would be worth my time to make one!
