AEB – L dry ice question

I will be clamping my plates during the quench by putting them between the two super wide dies on my hydraulic press. I’m planning to clamp the ends with little C clamps so I can use them in the dry ice and the temper if I have to. Angle iron would be better for the Freeze and the temper but I...

AEB – L dry ice question

I am getting ready to do my first heat treatment of AEB – L at home. The commercial heaters have either become too expensive, not confidence or inspiring or they just flat don’t take small orders anymore. I have my 16“ x 4“ x 1“ plates and a long drive for dry ice. I have heard that AEB – L is...

    G/flex

The lake John White explained it to me pretty well. Plain 105/205, 206 or 207 is basically laminating goop. You make fiberglass out of it. 207 is the clear stuff. If you want to use it for adhesive or filler, then you add the other stuff to it. He told me to use colloidal silica. The other...

Because I have lots of oil and no giant aluminum plate nor a compressor to blow air.

    Oil quenching air hardening steels.

I would not be putting these in an envelope. I would be using a 2000+ degree anti-scale goop. I use the high temperature, stainless foil for thermal cycling, stress, relief, and kneeling, etc. But not for he treating. I’ve used it on one occasion to wrap a mosaic Tile billet. The foil basically...

    Oil quenching air hardening steels.

I have seen some folks like Roman Landis say that they oil quench air hardening steels. I am thinking about CPM 3V and maybe later some ALDO AEB-L equivalent. I have both AAA and 50 and I was wondering if you could quench it in 50 that had not been warmed up to perhaps make it a less violent...

    Paracord wrapped handles.

Just a general question. Have paracord wrapped handles fallen out of favor in the custom knife world? I know you still have people who still do stuff that’s closer traditional Japanese style, but have the striders of the world gone away?

I’ve tried to get in touch with Bo at blue lightning three times over the last week and I haven’t heard a peep. He already has my artwork but fortunately I have a copy to. Who do you guys recommend for stencils and what kind of turnaround could I expect?

Upper part of the forge for a double coat of Satanite. Everything will get the ITC 100 before I tack weld the end cap back on. My forge is an old...

    I hate making sheaths!

Any suggestions? Incidentally, that sheath maker in question was Paul Long. I have used tree stump/Chris Kravitt off the shelf stuff for a number of years. I just build enough to fit the chef.

    I hate making sheaths!

So tell us about the time you passed on the full price of a $250 sheath. Yes, the very well-known sheath maker told me I should be getting more for my knives. Problem is nobody would pay me more.

    Chile forge customer service?

Like I said, I ordered from high temp. When I lived in the Tampa Bay area, I had a refractory supply place close by. Now I live in the middle of nowhere, so mail order.
