    Slip Joint Spring-How Strong?

The biggest difference in custom slipjoints is that they are smooth and strong. Even though it sounds like it, that is not a contradiction. The key is getting the tang worked out perfect so that the opening is smooth so that even with a stronger spring the knife is still relatively easy to...

Which PID to buy? (and other questions)

Im really interested in this build Chuck. Ive been putting this off for awhile, right now I have to use a buddy's oven but I would really like to do it im my shop. I was going to use the tutorial on British Blades but that one was a little big for what I need. (I mainly do folders). If you...

How do you deal with rust?

CLP; best oil I can find. I put it on all my carbon knives, I like to clean my knives from time to time depending on how much use they get. After cleaning they always get a thin coat of CLP. Sean

    1st Annual Knife Dogs Awards

I agree that self nomination is a good idea as well as nominations by others. I just think it would be to hard to go through all the pics, there are 39 pages in the gallery alone. As far as new makers go, I think our little group here should operate pretty well on the honor system. Sean...

    1st Annual Knife Dogs Awards

This is a great idea. I have a couple of questions though. With pics being posted over a year in various sub forums, will some knives get kinda "lost"? What I mean is maybe a knife pic that was posted somewhere other than the gallery in sayAugust, Sept, Oct. etc. of 09? Will the nominators...

    Question For Makers

Ditto Without getting longwinded, this whole argument started years ago when the first stainless steels started showing up. The average guy could not get it to take an edge like a non stainless knife, so therefore it was thought that stainless couldnt be sharpened. I use ATS34, which is...

    440C gummy?

I guess gummy might have been the wrong word, its not like grinding 300 series, but it is different from the ATS.

    440C gummy?

Ive never used 440C, but had a nice bar given to me. Im making a knife to give to my mentor. Is it me or is it a pain in the rear to grind? I always use 10XX and for stainless I use ATS34. Anything I can do? You out there Mike?;) Sean

Help me with the rest of my KITH Knife desighn

Cool!! KITH pics already. Thats going to be a great looking knife. As for the design, IMHO stag is done to death. I would go with a frame and to me that knife would look great with some spalted maple or buckeye burl, anything with alot "movement". Maybe a lazy "S" gaurd. Sean

    Photographing steel structure...how?

Thank you for that. Please dont take this as sarcasm (I hate typed language, no inflection at all and things are often taken the wrong way). For a guy like me to get info from you is like a model rocketeer getting to talk to Dr. Von Braun. Not that you are a saint or anything like that, but...
