Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words and input.
This is truly my first 100% handmade knife. Ground it, heat treated and tempered it myself.
I've put handles on many other makers and suppliers blades, but this was a first for me.
Finally finished it up this weekend.
9 1/2" overall with a 4 1/2" blade.
3/16" 01 steel with a flat grind.
Buckeye burl scales with Turquoise for the bolsters.
Took a ton of pics because I was so excited to finally finish it...
I've been monitoring mine through both tempering cycles so far.
The oven thermometer is showwing 50 degrees cooler than the digital readout.
I have it set to 450 but the thermometer is showing barely over 400.
I have gone 1 1/2 hours on both cycles, do you think that is enough or should I...
That would be a great tool to have.
I'm looking for someone to test mine right now.
Not sure about anyone else Wayne, but that link is not working for me.
To heat treating 01 steel.
Did my first heat treating on some knife blades I made.
I've got them tempering in an oven at the moment.
A few pics of the process.
My very basic set up with some fire bricks.
Heating the steel up past 1450 degrees to a dull red glow...
