    RWL Drop Point Hunter

Hello Dogs, Here's one I just finished today. A Loveless influenced drop point hunter. For us newer makers, doing one of these classic designs will really let you know where you are with your knifemaking. OAL: 9" Blade: 4" Steel: 1095 @ 5/32" Handle: Green micarta w/red liners...

    Titanium handled desk knife

Hi Dogs, This is one I recently finished while trying out titanium for the first time. Not sure what to call it so let's say it's a desk knife. OAL: 9 3/4" Blade: 4 3/4" Steel: 1095 @ 5/32" Handle: 0.1" heat colored titanium w/ brass pins All comments are welcome...

    How to tune a burner?

Phil, you need the flare on a venturi burner. It creates a pressure decrease at the tip that prevents the burner from blowing itself out. You can run a forced air burner without one. David

Surface grinder conversion contact wheel question

Ed Caffrey has a recent thread on this in his forum. Wheel diameter, width, durometer....

Does this look normal? What is it?

Roger, looks like your quench is giving you a differentially HT'd blade. That is a desirable effect for alot of makers. Canola isn't the best quench medium for 1095 so it's doing the job on your cutting edge because it's thin. The spine being thicker isn't quenching fast enough so it...

    Anodizing Titanium ??

Keith, this is very timely for me also as I've been looking at the exact same unit. It was noted by Bill Vining on his website. The 0-120 volt output should give the full range of colors. My only hesitation was the 1 amp max but my understanding is that will be plenty for smaller items like...

    Two for one look-see..

Thanks Gents. Calvin, yes the handle is epoxied onto the tang. I drilled and notched the tang so that I could go pinless. Yep, walnut is nice stuff. David

    Best prices on ITC-100

That will be an interesting test Ed. The ITC isn't cheap but my unsophisticated little forge was a whole 'nother beast once I bit the bullet and got some from Ellis. Looking forward to your observations. David

    Another forge tank question

I used a 5 gallon air tank bought for $20 from Harbor Freight. It has legs and a handle and comes with a pressure gauge that will fit your regulator saving you 10 or 12 bucks. Works out to almost free and does the job nicely. David

Adding a blower to a forge....

Hi Rex, The T-rex is a great burner but it won't match a blown burner. I built one of Larry Zoeller's 3/4" modified sidearm burners for about $25. It actually has a few more BTU's than the T-rex according to the posted figures for each. For welding apps I simply switch the mig tip from .035 to...

Wow Kris. I guess we all have our own burdens to bear but yours sounds like an especially rough one. If I get a brainstorm for your project I'll shoot you a note. Best wishes, David
