    Vfd selection

I've never used a 1 hp motor on a belt grinder. I'm afraid that you would tend to bog it down. I use a 1.5 hp motor and it is all that I need. I do forge my blades profile and bevels so I don't do a lot of grinding. I have never stalled my motor and have carried my grinder to many...

    Vfd selection

As I said before: The book says that you must run a 2 hp motor on 230v power, however, that is for heavy, continuous use (such as commercial HVAC or pumps). We do not use our grinders under heavy, continuous use. If you were to over run your KBAC drive it would just shut off. You just hit the...

    Vfd selection

Baldor motors are way over priced. TechTop makes motors for Baldor's European market. The TechTop motors are cast aluminum for better cooling and have several nice features. I think that the TechTop cast aluminum motors are better than the Baldor rolled steel motors. I believe that a 1.5...

    WTB:Used 2x72 grinder

Oh, how dumb of me (at 74 years maybe I just don't think quite as fast) Raymond Head will supply the frame of the Moe's Grinder with all the holes drilled (so you don't need a drill press) and the welding done (so you don't need a welder). See...

    WTB:Used 2x72 grinder

You might need to start acquiring some other tools besides a belt grinder. If you are or can get affiliated with a local blacksmith or bladesmith group maybe you could get someone to help you or you might check out the GIB kit from Jamie at www.polarbearforge.com. There is a good blacksmithing...

    Propane forge questions

Check out the attachments on the Forge Supplies page on my website. Build a Gas Forge tells how I like to build a good, tuff, efficient, long lasting forge. The other attachment, Ribbon Burner is about building the burner I use day to day. I can adjust and control the temperature for forge...

    Outlet location in shop?

I saw on Ask This Old House yesterday that there is a new "Child Proof" outlet cover that you have to push the spring loaded cover over to expose the actual outlet holes.

Operating 2 Motors with a Single VFD

Wiredued, while I agree, generally, the VFD is off while you are unplugging one motor and plugging in the other so it is not a hot plug. But if you don't like it that way just get two plugs and one outlet. Let me know if I can help you.

Operating 2 Motors with a Single VFD

I just go to the hardware store and get two 4 prong outlets and one matching 4 prong plug. Both motors need to be the same hp and the same rpm. Just wire each motor to an outlet and the plug to the cable from the VFD. Then you just plug into the motor that you are using. I posted this...

    KMG converted to direct drive!

Rather than go to the trouble to make the brackets just mount the motor, using the feet to the base, or table. I lay a framing square along the grinder frame with the short let along the motor foot. If it winds up not being exactly square because of miss drilling you probably have enough...
