    What to charge for sharpening

Seems like I read someplace a guy got $1/inch to sharpen. By the inch seems a fair way to do it - a 4" paring knife will take much less time than a 10" chef/fillet knife

    three done

That walnut really looks good - hard to beat good looking Walnut Burl. On the Rosewood if you wetsand with CA glue with 400 grit the sanding sludge tends to fill the pores for a nice finish. Then sand with 400 grit to the bare wood removing all trace of CA glue except for the filled pores...

Hey, laugh if you want but before retirement I once found myself in the bathroom at work, looked around and wondered why I'm in here. Then realized I had some papers in my hand I was taking to the copy machine - the trip from my office to copy room took me past the bathroom and for some reason...

Chris, you are treating that psoriasis aren't you? When you have arthritis and psoriasis both, you most likely have psoriatic arthritis that gives you a 3X more likely to die from cardiactic issues. OR, that's what my cardiologist said from his reading. Once he found that, he got me on...

Folks, there are pros 'n cons to getting old... I don't mean just "older", but OLD!! I'm almost 77 these days and while I do fully enjoy my retirement, there are couple things that come up to bite me more often than ever before. Like walking into a room, then can't remember why I'm in the room...

Yep, it sounds like mirrors would help with that :)

Pry tab on handle of full tang blade-Bad idea?

Think about how thick the tang is - if it's fairly thick as in a camp knife I don't expect there would be a problem flexing the tang while using the tab.

Damascus and High Carbon Steels are not food safe -- aka the Jay Fisher Rabbit Hole

Jay Fisher isn't selling knives, he's selling "art". Check this pair of chef knives - they're NICE, but $14,000 for the pair? https://www.jayfisher.com/Concordia_Talitha_Deschutes_Jasper.htm

    Burnishing 3-4 layer edges

I try to be sure the glue is spread complete to edges, then clamp so the edges are clamped tight so no gaps are left. Even with that a gap is sometimes left. There is an edge kote (Amazon #B004303LMC) that's a thick dye that works pretty good to fill small gaps. It's available in black, and...

    2X72 water mister

I think grinding the bevels would be the only time the mister would be used. I turn it off for everything else when the dust collection system is running. When grinding the bevels I turn the dust collection system off so the mist/water isn't sucked into the system/filter etc.

    2X72 water mister

Josh, do you have a vacuum dust collector also? If so, does the water in the mist affect the filters of the dust collector?

    2X72 water mister

I'm still too new at this mister to make a good comment. Seems like it would help some. Looking forward to responses from other folks with more experience using the mister.

    2X72 water mister

Hello ya'll. I've been wanting a way to help prevent burning a blade while grinding - and with thin kitchen knives it sure is easy to get a dark brown - or heaven forbid a blue tint while grinding. I dip in water each pass when grinding HT'd SS like AEB-L, etc. I wondered about a water cooled...

    Thanksgiving/Black Friday Sale

Darrn, not trying to be nasty here, but from your profile I see you say Nebraska - but on the website it's like many of the scam sites where there is no location info at all. When I visit a website and can't find where they're located it makes me VERY nervous about ordering from that site...

Be sure to let us know how they work out. How thick are they? I saw on Amazon the cards would range from .2mm to .8mm which is .008" that seems pretty thin and flimsy to .04" which seems pretty good.

    The Laser Thread

OK, I edited the above #97 thread to replace the "no paint" with another photo of the same etch but more in focus. You can see the first "no paint" photo looks better than before. Darn if it doesn't almost look blacker than the "black paint" photo. Perhaps it's because the scale of the two...

Question re: Copper liners on Carbon Fiber.

Those copper spacers with the copper accented Carbon Fiber scales really look good. I'll bet the customer is VERY happy with the knife. Good job.
