"Concave" edge grinding

Are you talking about a recurve or an arc like a karambit? Most grind on the edge of the flat platen or the contact wheel . You can also grind it perpendicular on a contact wheel. I do this for some karambits. It gets easier the more you do it but it can be a pain when first trying it.

    Trio of 'hawks

Thanks James. That was pretty informative. I'll look into the t-shirt press. I've been using a great gun with ok results but I think my home built press needs more clamps or is too large. I never thought if making a template per blade. It would make things easier.

    Trio of 'hawks

Great work James! I've always been impressed with you're kydex work too. What thickness do you use to get that definition?

    S7 tool Steel

Darrin summed it up nicely. I use it for tactical hawks and some karambits. You won't get it to 60 hrc. 57hrc is avg and you can probably get it to 58-59hrc if you temper around the 350 range but I have tried that. It's very tough. Makes great choppers, hawks, karambits, and machetes.

    Caused of copying design.

Andrew is is spot on. I've had knife designs and design features I've been tinkering with for years and have seen my ideas on different knives and I don't browse other people's work and usually I see them randomly from people I've never heard of. I've also been accused of copying someone famous...

    Z-Tuff Chopper

Nice! I have a piece I bought from Zapp sitting here but I haven't tested this steel yet. Love A2 and I use a fair amount of s7 for hawks so I'm really looking forward to this steel.

Hi I'm a lady dog new to the forum

Welcome to the pack! I make karambits but not trainers. Funny, I was just talking to a friend of mine the other day about the oversized grips on most karambits. My friend and I are short so the overly large handles have only helped with some hooking and joint manipulation but becomes a bit of a...

Contact wheels - what sizes do you use

It's posts like Ed's above that keep me sane. Every tine I have something down it doesn't stay down. Errors cost more time which costs more money. Probably explains why I'm broke as a part time knife maker....

    Terotuf problem

This time the original is on the left and the 2 with the new batch on the right. I wet the 2 new with water. May have to add some mineral oil... it did get me another customer so maybe it isn't all bad but most people that want a tac blade want flat black. [/IMG]

    Terotuf problem

Two on the left finished at 120 grit and the one on the right 320. The new batch does not get quite as dark or consistent. Looks like black stonewashed jeans when finished at 320 grit due to the lighter specks peppering it... [/IMG]

    Terotuf problem

I've been using terotuf for most of the tac blades I've been making. Usually it sands fine and finishes like it should; rough but consistently black at 320 grit. I recently orderd direct from the company that makes it and it's not finishing at all like the first sheet I ordered from them. At...
