G'day Chris, Good to see you getting back into it. I wouldn't be making slipjoints if it wasn't for your tutorial. Alistair

    BladeSports visit to Australia

Jose Diaz came down to certify a bunch of us as BladeSports cutters. I think he found all of us to be certifiable for sure :D Anyway it was a great day. Good to learn some of the techniques people have figured out on how to cut all the different materials. I took a bit of video that I put up...

Just to let you know I have just tried it on my mac using Safari. I am getting the same results. Anything with www.knifedogs.com shows me the enter username & password. Anything that is just knifedogs.com shows me as logged on. Alistair

Gadzooks! New forum software is installed

I am having the same problem. When I arrive on the front page of knifedogs.com it doesn't show me as logged in at all yet when I select a sub forum it will know that I am logged in. It seems that there are some bugs with the front page showing the status of being logged in. I am using Firefox 3.6.8.

    No pattern slipjoint tutorial

Very interesting. Were you taught to make them that way or that was the method you developed on your own? Alistair

    First slip joint WIP

For me milling the liners works well because I can buy some precision ground steel and keep the spring and the tang the same thickness. If you use washers you either need to buy 2 thicknesses of steel or grind the tang thinner by the thickness of the 2 washers. Without a surface grinder it is...

    First slip joint WIP

Nicely done on milling the liners. I am going to have to get myself a rotary table.

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

One way I have heard of but never tried is.. Cut a piece of micarta say 1.5" x 0.5" drill a hole and glue a pin through that hole. Then glue a piece of sandpaper to the end of it as wide as you need your recess to be leaving a gap from the pin to the sand paper as wide as you want you washer to...

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

Chris Crawfords DVD on scale release autos will show you how to make a lock back that screws together. Until you start on the catch for the blade in the closed position everything else is the same as a lock back. Also this book I thought was pretty reasonable. Amazon Link to Lock back Knife...

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

I am a muppet sometimes. I just realized I have a tutorial on my own webpage which is about designing a slipjoint. http://knives.mutantdiscovery.com/slipjoint1.html If you have any questions let me know I am happy to help out.

Ever hit a roadblock that you just can't seen to get past?- or how to make a folder!

What sort of folders did you want to make? Slip joints, liner locks or lock backs? Nothing beats just getting started with some materials, even if it is just a cheap bit of acrylic, or some micarta to get you head around all the moving parts. Being able to see what is going on makes things a...
