    Finishing Titanium Framelock Scales

Yeah, a larger compressor is WAY nicer but even a small one is ok. I usually blast at 90ish psi, so far as long as it can maintain close to that pressure it will work. If your doing more than one or two it may drive you nuts to have a small one. Adding an extra tank is a good intermediate step...

    New shop question

I opted for no dust collection to avoid potential fires. I made a dedicated grinding room instead with meat freezer hanging doors. So far I really like it. I definitely agree with everyone that you cant have too many compressed air lines. I feel the same way about power outlets also. I upgraded...

    Finishing Titanium Framelock Scales

Probably not the answer you want but I would just get the cabinet. I haven't found a real alternative. About 200 dollars gets you a cabinet with media. For the darkest possible color I use garnett or 80g aluminum oxide.

Not funny to me April fools

I live in canada so I buy belts locally to save on duties. I definitely agree that fake charges is an instant no for me. Seems like a great way to get your business reported and create headaches for yourself. Good on them for handling it I guess, but it seems that a stunt like that has...

new maker from Idaho long time knife enthusiast

Welcome, very cool. I would just aim for whatever is cheap until you're wanting to sell some knives. I started with 1084 personally just because it was available locally.

    Lock Rock

If your lock is only contacting the outer edge and you have rock it sounds like you dont have enough lockbar tension. If you are able to push it over it means its not traveling all the way using spring tension alone. This can cause your lockup to seem earlier when you set it. It eventually just...

What's going on in your shop?

New to CNC, looking for advice

I have been lacking on my updates here. Long story short the original mill never worked properly and it wasted 6 months of my time. I purchased a different mill and have been working away at learning the processes. I have gotten to a point where I have made a successful prototype of each part. I...

Ya know what grinds my gears?

This has been a good read. I have a couple to add. 1. When you take the time to answer someone's questions and they dont reply. 2. When someone complains about pricing or tries to tell you what your pricing "should" be and what your material costs "actually" are. 3. When you make a listing...

How long will I make rookie mistakes?

If I am doing a more complicated build like a framelock I will make a spreadsheet with every step detailed. Every time I finish a batch I make notes and refine the spreadsheet. It helps with minimizing unnecessary mistakes. It really frees up time for "necessary mistakes"...

New to CNC, looking for advice

I figured I would update this thread as its been a while. I have received the machine and assembled it fully. I am having some issues and I am working through them with tormach. some of the issues were just me not knowing what I was doing (I am sure there will be more of those) and some I think...

What's going on in your shop?

Had a pretty productive weekend. I ground 4 blades and completely finished off 3 framelocks. I have been working on these for a while.

    Noob maker, lemme have it!

Looks great man, keep up the good work. I think there has already been some great advice given here. I think the best way to improve is just keep making more. Compare them to each other and look for areas to improve. I think most guys are their own harshest critics. If you are truly happy with a...

New to CNC, looking for advice

Thanks for the advice. For now I am looking to use waterjet to avoid having to write a program for every different size of stock I buy. My table isn't that large so I don't have the luxury of using larger sheets unless they are waterjet cut first to fit on fixtures. I like the idea of machining...

New to CNC, looking for advice

Hey Drew, Thanks for the reply. Someone recommended that I move the holes to be more in line with the center of the part. I was able to do that but I have no room for a third tab. I am using 2" bar stock and I can only get 2 blades in a 12" length. I never thought about using the pivot hole as...

New to CNC, looking for advice

I am looking for some feedback or advice regarding my proposed process. I will attach a picture of my CAD. My intention is to get waterjet blanks cut at about .030" oversize and include locations to fasten them to a fixture plate with 1/4-20 bolts. What I am unsure about is how much to oversize...
