What's going on in your shop?

Made myself a 3.5" O-1 paring knife. Handles are from a rosewood xolor laminated wood from Current Composites that is a few decades old. They made laminates like Dymondwood for gun grips and had some left overs. Full flat grind from 3/32" stock and a distal taper. Super slicey!

    upgrade scales on Benchmade Griptillian

There are tons of places selling aftermarket scales and other parts for Benchmades. You should be able to find a YouTube video of how to take apart and re assemble the knife pretty easily! I am considering doing the same to my bugout when I find it.

    Makers Mark

I use a Cricut and cut my simple stencil out. I only use it once, but I can change the size if needed, too, or do custom stuff on the knife. I rarely have an issue with bleed out around the stencil since I use adhesive vinyl.

What's going on in your shop?

Got the Dagger done! The right side of the tip looks funky, but it's from the pic itself. The black AmeraGrip looks really cool, almost like a tight carbon fiber look to it! Did the wider S90V drop point with spine jimping and buffed the AmeraGrip at the customers request. It actually...

What's going on in your shop?

Started my first dagger! 1/8" 80CRV2 steel, going to have 4 layers of Carbon Fiber Marble for the guard (with a red liner in the middle), black AmeraGrip for the handle and black G10 for the frame and red liners. Got the Cable knife fully done. Kryptek compliments the cable pattern...

How Long Do You Use a Grinder Belt?

The 1" ones I think do this more because the pressure is over less area. The 2" ones spread the pressure out more, but it is still easy to over do it if you aren't careful! I've been using them for I think over a year now and learned to use a very light touch, especially when they are new! As...

How Long Do You Use a Grinder Belt?

My Norax Ceramics and Trizact Gators and ceramics last a long time. I go thru a lot of 60, 80 and 120 grit belts and I try to toss them when they stop cutting well or use them when cleaning up hidden tang shoulders, profile clean up, etc. The 36 and 50 grit get put on Heavy Profiling duty when...

What's going on in your shop?

Been busy lately with the stepson graduating High School, but I did get some stuff done! S90V 3 5/8" blade, blue G10 guard and frame, Toxic Green G10 spacer/liners and SeaStrat G Carta handle. Also did my first cable knife! I made my Pipe Vise into a Hardy tool (welded a long, 1" bolt to...

Found a brand new handle material!!!

Did 2 more with AEB-L and AmeraGrip! Blue and DayGlo. These used .350" scales instead of the .25 on the orange one. They have the material listed in their instagram and facebook shops!

    Severe Angle work rest

Tables like that are really nice!! I gotta do my first dagger soon and will be using mine! I was able to get down to around 1.5 degrees on my AmeriBrade version, haven't tried to go lower than that yet.

    Knifemakers and Tool Collectors

Parchment paper is good too for easy clean up. I tried wax paper when I was molding home made micarta handles and the wax melted. Parchment is easy to release and doesn't seem to melt wax. I use Tri Lube dry lube for my molds and the stuff pops right out. You can spray clamps or metal...

    Coated Stainless: Another Silly Question.

That was back in the warly 2000's when I talked to Paul Bos!

    Coated Stainless: Another Silly Question.

Lol. I laughed at them and walked away from their table. I was like 20 at the time, but knew they were full of it and other guys were fawning all over them. I felt sorry for the makers who had tables near them! They were loud and obnoxious! I remember getting some s30v from a very early...

    Coated Stainless: Another Silly Question.

DLC and PVD are pretty durable coatings and resist scratches well because they are so hard. Those coatings don't seem to wear off as easily. I have a few Benchmades with those coatings and they hold up well, even with heavy use. CeraCoat and Powder Coat are less durable. CeraCoat is supposed...

    Knifemakers and Tool Collectors

Yeah, could be? I saw the ratcheting hand clamps I may try. The Kant twist are nice, but super expensive!!

    Knifemakers and Tool Collectors

Let us know how it does! I don't think it would be much different than C clamps for regular handles? It would probably be nice for segmented handles to hold the pieces down so they are flat on the bottom?
