    Mini Cleaver - Take Two

This was my attempt at re-making the mini-cleaver that I cracked badly during quench a few months ago. Same material and HT process as before, but I left the beveled edge much thicker this time. And it worked, no cracks! I tried for a hamon again, and got some definite activity, but just...

First Hidden Tang / Antler Handle

Well I got a $13 light tent from Amazon and can see it will make a big difference! Still have a long ways to go on developing technique, I think a bigger tent would help and want to get more blue fabric for the sides of the tent as well. Thanks again for the guidance everybody. Andy

First Hidden Tang / Antler Handle

This was my Christmas Break project since i was home for that week. Decided to attempt my first hidden tang knife. 1/8" thick 1075 with a piece of elk antler from the pet store, mild steel and ABW for the bolster and pommel. Attempted a hamon but obviously that part was a complete failure...

I’m super new to knife making, been at it a little over a year I think. Here’s the first knife I actually finished to the point of being able to put a handle on it

    Skinner WIP

I really like that shape. I made a very similar one last year, but your shape is more elegant than mine. And I’m sure your handle will be better shaped, mine came out pretty blocky (but I’m pretty new to this hobby). Can’t wait to see your next photos! Andy

    Wood stabilizing question

27.5" Hg is nearly full vacuum. The most you can physically get on planet earth, and only if you are at seal level with an absolutely perfect pump with no leaks or losses is 29.9" Hg. If it will hold steady at that reading I think you'd be in good shape. Andy

    Hamon procedure

I was postulating that perhaps the hamon line is a bit more open / porous on the surface on s microscopic level, and the old dirty oil particulate might collect in the pores, accentuating the line. I’m going to keep my cracked cleaver project and experiment on each side to see if I can draw...
