    Knifemakers Pic for "The Office"

Well usually by the time we get past the question of "What do you mean, you "make knives"?...why wouldn't you just buy one at Walmart instead"?..........they are bored, and say "cool wood". I usually respond by saying "Thanks, its hard to find these days, since the red and black trees are...

    Wood vs Stabilized wood.

Some makers have had the vulcanized fiber swell when it gets wet, and so they switched to using thin colored pieces of G10. This might be a consideration if a blade is going to be getting wet a lot. Mileage may vary, but just an FYI on the fiber..........

    Wood vs Stabilized wood.

Heres my take........ Its in the kitchen around water and moisture all the time. Definately stabilize it or use woods that are oily (coco / blackwood). Larry

Stabilizing Wood - Setting up and testing - Cactus Juice and Ultraseal

Sounds like a plan... I built a platform for my bandsaw with double layers of plywood and the casters that lever up to move and then set back down... I believe either Rockler or Woodcraft is where I got mine. I bolted the saw to the platform so it wouldn't be so "tippy".

T That is a MONSTER tank.... Glad you found a flange. I been looking but they seem pretty scarce. I think that idea of a drainage valve on the bottom might be good, since that thing weighs so much. You gonna set the other one up for dyes? Larry

    One man's trash

Thanks Mike, I have the frames built and covered in fleece. They're not attached to the case itself yet, but have been dry fit inside the case. When they're attached, the sides of the case will flatten out and there won't be those gaps (waves)....Here's a pic of the inside of the top and...

    One man's trash

Here are some more progress pics, as I go along. RIVETS galore ..... The top and bottom are both covered and dyed, but it still looks a little streaky and spotty but that should get better when I rub it out. There is also some pics of the hardware after it's rust remover...

    One man's trash

I have an idea that I would like to redo this case. Basically gut it and wrap it in leather and reuse the buckles and corner hardware. Make a new leather handle and redo the interior with some nice fabric etc. I was thinking I could replace the old rivets with Chicago screws, but whats...
