It is the stem material from the hemp plant, compressed and bonded with adhesive. It is not waterproof and can be stained and sealed. Yes, it is an engineered product. Comes in various dimensions. I purchased some samples to try out. Easy to work with, seems stable, machines and drills well...

    What grit to teach on?

Either 36 or 60 is my thinking. But, I think I would let him try either of those grits on some knife shaped wood to try getting some basic control instruction down.

    Olivewood sale

Hey Dale, I used Tru-Oil. I could have use any number of oils, but I like the feel of Tru-Oil. Even when it is glossy, it has a certain grippiness. But, you could just use mineral oil, food safe. Although you’ll have maintenance with that having to reapply...

    Olivewood sale

I purchased thicker than 1/4” to allow for flattening. Generally I purchase 3/4”, kiln dried materials and resaw them. I’m always hesitant to purchase scale materials online because the picture of that desirous wood is often not what you will get. Hope you get some dynamite looking stuff!

    Bushcraft knife sharpness?

To me, a bushcraft knife has to do a lot of chores, out in the wild. Yes, I think a paper cutting ability is a good benchmark to start with, regardless of the edge angle. Most all around knives that I have had experience with, that I would take into the wild, have a secondary angle of 20-25...

    Warming FC

Thanks Chris and neighbor. My enchant cylinder is made of 2 inch PVC pipe and stands about 20 inches tall. I was thinking of heat tape, but wanted to explore other’s ideas. The thing is, I want to heat it fast since I don’t do a lot of etching. Usually one blade here and there. So, it doesn’t...

    Warming FC

Hey Billy, yeah I live in Ga., but the shop is down in the 40’s here lately. Sure, not cold like yours, but cold enough to cause the FC not to do well, especially on AEB-L. Everything in the shop is ok except for the FC and epoxy (which I keep int the house). Me, I’m fine as long as I am moving...

    Warming FC

Hey All. I’m looking for some ideas for warming my Ferric Chloride. It is in a 2 inch PVC pipe in a stand. My shop is uninsulated and to heat and keep the shop warm is,,, well, overly expensive. I like working in the cold... I’m looking for a safe and quick method. TIA for all ideas. Scott

Tru-Oil works so good. To me, it leaves a faint grippiness instead super slick. Makes wood look great.
