    Happy thanksgiving…

Happy thanksgiving fellow knife dogs. I’m sitting in a tree stand out in the woods right now, haven’t seen any deer yet but it sure is nice out, 62, foggy, and breezy.

    Grizzly G0759 mill

Depending where you reside Craigslist might be a good place to look. in the Tampa Bay area Craigslist is loaded with used machinery but where I live now, in the Florida panhandle there is zilch...nothing. unless your good at converting farm equipment. ebay is another place to check, I was...

    440C Hunter

I used to use a lot of 440-C until it fell out of favor mainly with people at knife shows as the "super steels" or steel flavor of the year started hitting the market in a big way. my go to stainless now is CPM-154. But...I've had a lot of 440-C knives go to Africa and used for skinning Rhinos...

    Case re handle...

Will do, the knife’s done. I’m going to make a leather sheath to protect the blade in a few days, cause this this is going to be scary friggin sharp when I’m thru with it.

    Case re handle...

I had the Florida forestry dept. out to my place to assist with a prescribed burn, one of the guys has been to my place several times over the years. this time he brought me an old Case knife he said his father found years ago an gave it to him. the handle looks like a broom stick cut in half...

Knife Scale Recommendations - Xmas Gift

Pine cone scales might be nice, their kind of tricky to get flat though. usually there's a little warp to them, I put them in an oven at about 200 degrees for a while, flatten them, then put them to a disc sander. while not everyone likes them their definitely different.

    Stitches??

I've needed stitches twice in my shop, years ago, and stitched myself. it's pretty painless if you do it fast. my new shop is 35 miles from a hospital, one way, so if I just need a few I'll do it again. something really bad of course calls for a doctor but for just a few stitches I'm not going...

    Surface Grinder

I have a 6x12 manual Harig that I bought used about a year ago primarily for folder blades. I added a coolant spray system to it and now, after learning how to run it well along with how it likes to be run, every knife I make goes on it including straight fixed blades.

What's going on in your shop?

Nice oyster knives opaul, I agree with the double bevel. watch the thickness and heat treat too, I've seen them break before. I used to have a friend in Ceder Key Fl. that was an oyster man. when I went there to hunt I'd stop by and see him and order a bushel, the next day I'd be waiting at his...

    First welding machine

I usually just run flux wire because most of the stuff I weld is only for structural strength like machine stands and tree stands out in the woods but there is quite a bit of splatter and it ain’t pretty. I use welders aid in a spray can that helps some with the splatter but running argon gas...

    First welding machine

I’ve had a Century mig welder for probably 30 years and it’s been a great mig welder. Mine runs on gas too and the difference between flux welding and using gas is night and day. I’d get a gas welder if I were you opaul, for times when you want a really nice clean weld on something gas will do...
