I really appreciate your comment and suggestion! I have tried using a 220 belt before but I tend to get a lot of chatter unless I’m using a wheel or just slack. Do you or have you ever experienced that?

Two more EDC knives started today

I’ve made a couple of these so far and really like them. These are made from 80CRV2 and it’s the first time I’ve worked with it. I think I’ll do more knives in this material!

I cut this blank out a while back and have worked on it periodically. 1080 with a 9” OAL. Belt sanded to 120 then hand sanded from 120 to 400. I’ve been working really hard on my hand sanding and this is definitely my best to date. Still not perfect but I’m very happy with it! The handle is...

    Rubber platen?

One other trick that works well is using a worn out surface conditioning belts. I take my old ones and cut them up to the length of my platen. They are already 2” wide so they fit perfectly. A 2x72 belt will give me 10 strips. I have one platen dedicated for this. Just glue them on with...

    Tanto EDC

My latest tanto EDC. 1080 steel. 5 1/2” OAL. 1 1/2” main cutting edge. Toxic green kirinite scales with G10 liners and pins. I ground it to 220 then put the scales on. After installing the scales I talked to Randy Lucius about his hand sanding technique. Randy gave me some great tips and...

    My latest EDC

I am super pumped about how this has turned out! It’s not quite finished but it’s close enough and I wanted to post some pics. I still need to buff the handle and sharpen it. I was going to leave it sanded to 180 but decided to try my hand at sanding it to 600. Unfortunately I decided to do...

    Karambit/wharncliffe Hybrid

Finished another Karambit/Wharncliffe hybrid. 1080 steel, G10 scales, and stainless pins. I made the scales out of scrap G10 that I kept from previous projects. I think it turned out nicely!

What's going on in your shop?

The dust has been a battle I’m sure we all have fought. I’ve been trying to find ways to help cut down on the dust, especially the dust that makes it into my house. Over the last week I have installed a ceiling mount air filtration system that I bought on Amazon AND I was able to come up with...

2019 KD Members Choice Awards - TACTICAL FIXED BLADE

Well, I suppose I’ll throw my hat in the ring too. Here is my Karambit / Wharncliffe hybrid. I’ve actually made three of these to date with more coming. It’s made from 1080, G10 scales, hollow stainless pins, and etched with Ferric Chloride. It’s attached to my vest and goes out on the road...

    Hamons, again

I use FC to etch that has been diluted with distilled water. After etching I move the blade immediately to another tank that is distilled water and baking soda. From what I’ve read and learned from others is this mixture to neutralize the etch. After neutralizing I give it a wipe down with a...
