Small Wheel Attachment Bearings Running Hot

I built a small wheel attachment for my 2x72 grinder recently. I used some used bearings and shaft that I had around, so I wasn't too surprised when a bearing went out after about an hour of use. I ordered new bearings and installed them, but they seem to build heat after running only a little...

The one thing you don't want to hear at the Gate.

So, I am assuming the above belief is one of John's beliefs that you see say "unhealthy and unfit" for you to accept? (the belief that some people may spend eternity in hell)? And, I fear that you may be right- the truth that there is an eternal hell prepared for those who reject Christ and...

The one thing you don't want to hear at the Gate.

Tai- I have to ask: What are some of the things, that John has said he believes, that you see as "unhealthy and unfit" for you to believe? Bill

    Steel question

Seems as the file becomes a little less sharp, I have more problem with balling up or clogging and needing to use the file card more often. -kind of like with abrasives. "it seems the more I learn, the more questions I have." (from Wiredud): I can really identify with that- with knifemaking...

    Paid membership

I just tried a few times to subscribe as a knifemaker and got this message when I was being led to authorize.net: "The following errors have occurred.(13) The merchant login ID or password is invalid or the account is inactive." Then I went thru the USA Knifemakers website and checkout-...

Thumb Grip Serrations on a Neck Knife Spine

Thanks, John- I will try that out on some cheap steel to get a feel for it. I appreciate your advice, Bill

Thumb Grip Serrations on a Neck Knife Spine

My next project is a neck knife. I've been playing with the profile and have pretty much zeroed in on what feels right. Now to see what it feels like in steel form. I want a small grip area on the spine in front of the handle, but have never done any filework on a spine. Does anyone use a thin...

    flat acid finish

Is it true that: the finer the finish, the less prone to rust? mirror finish being the least susceptible?-less surface area/porosity or something like that? thx, Bill

Sheath options for my most requested model

Good setup, camera work and script. Sums up the different choices available pretty well. As for price, you'd have to be the judge of that (and we didn't see the knife), but it looks like a lot of value and options for the money. Well done!

    Anyone seen these?

Here's a thread with a little more info about them http://knifedogs.com/showthread.php?4562-Multi-tool-2x48-belt-grinder-attachment&highlight=Multi+Tool+2x36

    Anyone seen these?

J Cullen posted this about them and belt availability a few years back: "Enco has them, also a company named Van Sant, Google, Multitool 362, Good variety out there just have to look, cost isn't a problem either" - don't know if it still holds true Yeah, the contact wheel looks too small for...

    Anyone seen these?

Darn it! Sorry, I just saw another thread discussing these with some helpful feedback. Maybe it's good to put it out there again for some who missed it before? Looks like it could be a good stepping stone for someone out there.

    Anyone seen these?

Just ran across this - a belt grinder attachment for your bench grinder. I hope I didn't miss it on another thread here and waist everyone's time reading. But, I thought it might be a good fit for someone who can't afford to buy or build a 2x72. I didn't research it much tho...

What's going on in your shop?

Well-nothing to brag about, but I'm stoked- just built a quick small wheel attachment and it didn't cost me a dime. I even have enough shaft left to put together a couple of other size wheels if I find the right material. The knives pictured (sorry for the crummy phone pics) are: an old Solingen...

My trifecta of new known steels.

Walt- I always hesitate to comment on pieces I see other guys post here, due to my own lack of experience and skill. But, two things I see seem to cry out and beg for comment: 1: Your skills have greatly improved since I have been around KnifeDogs. Your grindlines, and just overall vision of...

Can't believe I got this- (now what do I do with it?)

Hey Guys- I guess I started this thread- it sure escalated over my head in no time- due to my lack of knowledge and inexperience with these. I have been swamped with my job, and haven't had any time for knives, much less for the oven project. I appreciate the input from Country Guy and your...

    Forge building questions

I built mine with an old propane bottle that measured about 18" high by 12" diameter. I used two layers of kaowool, sealed with two coats of Metri-Kote. I laid firebrick in the bottom on top of the Kao-wool to protect against flux-drops. I have had to touch up the Metrikote in a couple of spots...
