    Stabilized bone vs UV damage.

Hello, I am wanting to use some dyed stabilized bone for a couple of knife handles and wonder about UV damage. I already have the stabilized bones (wildebeast) but didn't think to ask before buying them about UV resistance. I contacted the seller and inquired as to what resin they were...

Another nice knife. I especially like the pin arrangement and the way the spacer separates the different patterns in them. The colors and placement of the knife handle materials and the colors in the sheath compliment each other beautifully. It looks comfortable to use and carry which I value...

Nice. I know the handle is not an organic material but the way you used the materials and the overall design makes it have a definate organic "vibe" to it. Looks to be very comfortable in the hand as well. Nice the way you arranged the grain pattern(s). Very nice.

What's going on in your shop?

Sounds like a good plan. I've used stabilized leather rounds on some handles as transitions between the finger guard and handle and they do the opposite. The outer flat surfaces of the leather tend to wear away a little faster if I'm not careful. I've never done stacked leather with non...

    Another Arno Bernard knife.

I got my first Arno Bernard knife (Hunter model) on a trade deal with a friend for some restoration/repair work on an old German hunting dagger. The next one I saw up for bid is a little Bird and trout knife and won it. It has beautiful scrimshaw work on the warthog tusk that incorporates the...

Help Me ID this Automatic with a squirrel?

I think that might be an otter. I can't quite remember how the otter looked in a german blademakers reference I usted to have. Maybe a search on german knife makers marks might prove useful in identification. An otter was a soligen blade makers mark though. Edit-I found the maker. RaMo Soligen...

    Damien Connolly original !

Mullin knives can bring some money I think. I just saw a bone handled folder with engraving on bolster for sale. $1.495.00 U.S. Others in the $300.00-$800.00 range. As far as importing ivory into the U.S. I'm not really sure but I think it has to be really old (with documentation). I also...

    Damien Connolly original !

Connolly's works are truly pieces of art. Amazing detail in both knives and gun stocks/grips. Maybe an art appraiser might be of help. Just a thought....... From what I've seen even a really simple (but gorgeous nontheless) knife of his without engraving etc. goes for the $600.00-$1,000.00...

Hand sanding liquid? Windex vs tapping fluid?

Use caution. I learned long ago to avoid anything with ammonia in it is not good for cleaning the bores of my rifles. I don't know right off hand if windex has ammonia but if it does I'd be cautious. It seems that once ammonia gets into micro scratches, pits etc. it's corrosive properties are...

I really like the knives and LOVE the sheaths. To a lot of folks sheaths seem to be an afterthought. Not the case with you. I wish I had more time and 1/2 your patience when it comes to leather sheaths. Nice work Dennis.................................................Pat M. Edit-I just...

Great interplay between the wood grain and pins/lanyard tube and visual flow of your knife. Nice work. I usted to design and make custom furniture and whatnot. Your use of grain patterns and porpotions in alot of your knives are very similar to what makes a fine custom piece of furniture stand...

Cold Bluing Steel - Does hardening make a difference?

Rust blueing takes some time to do right but is well worth it IMHO. Wears way better than cold blueing. I'e used the Birchwood and Vans cold blueing on gun parts and had better results with the Vans but that's just me.

    A Couple of Small Hunters

Beautiful and very well thought out. I have a Lignum Vitae carving mallet that is a greenish color, no where near as pretty as your wood. I'm wondering if these are the Argentinian Lignum Vitae I've heard about. Super strong wood.

    Carbon chrome?

Well I did some research and it seems to be a tool steel that's was/is usually used in bearings. It's not classified as stainless and does corrode if exposed to wet conditions for long. It seems the chrome in the mix is for toughness/longevity. That explains to me the shine it has and also...

    Hello everyone!

Welcome. I haven't been in this forum for long and don't forge myself (too old can't handle the heat/hard work any more) and have been customizing handles on others blades for awhile now to get just what I want in a knife. By the looks of your pics. you have the handle part pretty much in...

You have an excellent eye for grain orientation on these knives. They are simple yet quite beautiful. Well done. I think anyone would and should be proud to own any one of them.
