    Problem with Electro Etching?

I understand frugality, but when your results look like that, I'd strongly recommend a bottle of commercial etchant proper for the steel you are using. And then I'd use quite a bit less than I did on that etch above. If that keeps up after those changes, I'd take a look at that home made machine...

    Ideas for half-tang scales ?????

You could cut a slot in a block or you could make a laminate with the center section the thickness of the tang. It can be the same material or you can perhaps find a perfect match thickness-wise with some type of spacer/liner material from G-10 or Micarta, etc.

I've had that, "I thought you died," from a few so far. LOL. I hope I remember that line about not attending the funeral. That's really a quite perfect response! Thanks, Steve. I made my peace with dying lying in a hospital bed about 20 years ago with my heart running wild, IVs in both arms...

I find a prohibition against posting links to be utterly stifling and a real disappointing advent. There is more traffic elsewhere, but Tracy created and maintains a nice place here. And I enjoy the exchange with fellow knife people. It is the first thing I did when I rekindled my desire to...

Exactly, sir! Sitting and waiting to die doesn't work for positivity or happiness. Gotta move yer booty to live. I forgot that for a good while.

I was really happy when your lung/breathing issue began to turn around, and hope it is either back to normal or continues to improve. And I am sorry to hear your wife has issues that land her on pred. If there is one drug class that is a two edged sword, corticosteroids are it. Wonder drug with...

The Most Dangerous Thing in MY Shop...

I was afflicted with an inherited ( genetic flaw) autoimmune disease that in me expressed as psoriatic arthritis. It flared in earnest about 30 years ago. Unfortunately, those first ten years were before the modern biologic drugs you see on the tube. It pretty much ravaged most every joint in...

Blood thinners and skin damage from steroid cream for psoriasis. Steroids destroy the collagen that holds skin together. All the white spots are the collected scars. Some is from forging days, some is from raising puppies and or getting scored today by a paw/nail, and nowadays all I have to do...

The Most Dangerous Thing in MY Shop...

Well, after assembling a cart, welding table, benchgrinder stand and hanging some LED lights in the old garage, I believe I have it ready to go. Typical the last couple years, worse now with the blood thinner crap, worse too because years of steroid cream have thinned the skin to tissue paper...

    a few knives and sheaths...

I hate doing 1/16" pins but I love looking at them! Beautiful work. I really love that piece of bocote. That machine stitches wonderfully. And the effect of the sun with the oil darkening the leather is rather "flabbergasting". Had no clue. Thanks!

What a Difference a Great Tool Makes!

Thanks, Chris! I must have gotten some numbers crossed, what with the million prices I’ve looked at lately deciding on welders. $100 isn’t so bad at all, given the inflation and world economy. Thanks, again.

Dang, that drill press went from $1700 when I wishlisted it at AMZ to $2000 when I looked at it today. Should have leapt before. :(

I take a blood thinner. You can tell how much or little I've been in the shop by how many purple bleed spots are on my arms. Makes for interesting cogitating trying to figure out how the hell you got the latest crop, like yesterday's. Must have twenty new spots after putting together a welding...

What a Difference a Great Tool Makes!

Nanc and I didn't have kids. So, our "heirs" are my sister's two adult children and my BiL's triplet teens. We don't hear from or see them. $1000 spent on Christmas gifts for my niece's kids goes without a thank you. We DO hear from the BiL's daughters wanting money for school sponsoring of...

What a Difference a Great Tool Makes!

Thanks, again! Once I get things up and running and a bead laid down I’ll make a post about the start of my journey and ask for help and tips along the way. Other than watching feeds like YesWelder on IG, two books, and a dvd, I know nothing of TIG, just some gas and MIG. Should be fun.
