Would love some feedback on my first knife design

Changing the angle of the handle is a good idea. I like to round the spine and finger choil/back of the ricasso. I don't like any sharp edges on the blade except for the one that's meant to be. With a chisel grind, bevel on one side only, the knife pictured would be for a left handed person...

First impressions on the Cowboy Outlaw Sewing Machine

I use a needle to thread the front string through to the back. Then tie to the back string with super glue.

First impressions on the Cowboy Outlaw Sewing Machine

Congrats!! And I'm glad your experience was the same as mine. There's nothing better than unpacking a machine, assemble quickly, and it works from the start. I'm so glad I bought mine. Here are the latest 2 sheaths I made. One sewed and one not. I do cut a stitching groove before I sew...

    Oven Controllers

I have the Jen-Ken 21" airbath and went with the 3 button controller. I'm sure the other controllers are better or have more opotions, but I get along fine with the 3 button. I decided to upgrade to solid state instead of the more expensive controller.

    Damascus billet

On your stacked billet, I would cut the 7” pieces in half. The longer the billet is, the harder it is to get a good complete forge weld. I try to never have to forge weld a billet longer than 4”.

Questions for the woodworkers in the group

I'm not familiar with holly, so i looked it up on wood database. Here's the concern I found. Holly is typically used only for ornamental and decorative purposes. It has a fairly large shrinkage rate, with a lot of seasonal movement in service, and its strength properties are mediocre for a...

new maker from Idaho long time knife enthusiast

Welcome to KDs! I'll give another nod to 1084. It was the first known steel I used and I still have a blade out of it on my belt every day. It may be called a beginner's steel, but that doesn't mean it makes a lesser blade.

    "Bonefish"

Very nice! That brownheart reminds me of some sapele wood I have. The red liners set it off nicely.

First Knife Order - need a few opinions please

One other thing, I would get the antler in hand before designing the handle, if this will be a full tang design. I've had a few times where I just couldn't find the right piece to fit my handle shape, so I've started designing the handle shape around the shape of the antler piece.

First Knife Order - need a few opinions please

Congratulations!! As John said, don’t let the nervousness of a first sale get to you. Just do your best work and give the customer the best product you can. Even if it means going over the time you have allotted in the price. You’ll never regret that.

    Opinions on Design

Yes, the blade, guard and full tang will be one solid piece of damascus. At least that's the plan! I haven't decided on the scales yet. I have some really nice ironwood burl, koa and some mammoth tooth that I'm considering.

    Opinions on Design

I have the billets forged out and ready to cut and re-stack. Both were 15 layer billets, so I'll cut into thirds and forge making a 45 layer billet. Next, I'll cut in 1/2 to make 90 layers. From there. I'll forge round and twist. Here are the 2 billets in the forge along with a 114 layer...

    Opinions on Design

Just thought I'd post to say that I am getting started on this one. I have decided to do a 7 bar Turkish twist for the damascus instead of the mosaic. I've got the steel cleaned up and plan to get it welded up and forged down tonight. This one will likely take a while to finish as I still...
