    Pretty little hunter

That's a nice one Bruce ! I've been giving it some thought lately about maybe learning to do some simple engraving. Everyone starts somewhere :-) The engraving on your piece really sets it off, and I love the deep richness of the handle.

    Ball Vise

In March I'm going to buy some silver wire and start doing some inlay in a handle or two. And also going to look into a graver. I'm really excited about the options I have now.

    Ball Vise

Yes it's a solid tire. It sticks pretty well too. I need to make a fourth pin for it, but all in all it works great ! I really like it :-)

    Ball Vise

I just used a hacksaw. It was about an hour worth of cutting, but I think it was worth it.

    Ball Vise

During my visit to San Antonio I attended a seminar by Joe Keeslar. He was demonstrating wire inlay. Definitely something I will be doing in the soon future ! He used a ball vise when working with the hand tools. It swiveled all ways and was a definite style vise to use. I just finished making...

    dye for antler

I add it just straight from the bottle. No soaking or sealing. It saturates pretty well into the bone on its own. When finished I just buff the handle.

J.S. test knives by David Roeder

Today a good friend of mine Tom Morris and myself had a nice visit with Walla Walla M.S. Bruce Bump at his shop. As always I love the time I have to visits with Bruce. Today both Tom and myself brought our J.S. test knives for Bruce to look over. All in all I'd say that the visit was...

    The Little Knifemaker

For the beginning of the new year something that's been talked about for a shop project was the start of my oldest daughters first knife. She began with a Heller brand file that I hot cut to length. She forged to shape the blade and the distal taper of the blade. I was quite amazed at the...

    The little Knifemaker

Today my oldest daughter and I are working in the shop. She came to me a week ago and wanted to make a knife. Last week we forged a Heller file, and today she profiled and rough ground it. Next is heat treating and tempering. She's doing 98% of the work and I'm just making sure she's doing it...

    My #4 of 5 A.B.S. J.S. Test Knife

I'm testing later this month in San Antonio for my J.S. I've already made my 5 knives and shown them to Bruce Bump to give me the final say. He said no to two knives. So the first remake of my 5 knives is finished today. Saturday I hope to have the last one completed.

    Stamp holder

The time exposed to the stamp from the hot blade doesn't effect the temper of the stamp. it doesn't touch very long. There is no spring, it just freely slides inside the framework and rests briefly on the knife. As for cold stamping, well I know it can be done, but I wont do it. I've not had...

    Stamp holder

Hello everyone ! Well, I thought i'd share with everyone my newest shop tool. This is a stamp holder that I designed, and Owen Vernon from Pasco WA fabricated. Like everything that I try to make this one is definitely overkill ! But, that's the way I like things. This should outlast me during my...

    my daughters hammer

Thank you guys ! I'm sure she will enjoy having something of her own. The weight is only two pounds, so for now its a two handed hammer for her. My Pig hammer is a two pounder also and its my main forging hammer. So definitely something to grow into.
