    finish/blasting question

So how fine do you have to finish hardened steel so that blasting with aluminum oxide media' etc will remove/hide the grinder marks? I have read that with old school rust bluing, a clean 320 grit finish will work without blasting,, but i have seen one guy take a blade up to 600 and hand sanded...

15N20 to 10** ratio for damascus

I use 1/4 1084 so I had been using two pieces of .72 15n20 per layer. Now that you can get thicker stuff I’m going to use the 5/32 stuff. Close enough to 2/3 10 84 1/3 15n20. If you want to do it old school like some folks like Kevin Quetion apparently still do, you use the real thick layers...

    GREEN Hunter

Interesting. It looks like a lower pattern count than that. Yeah. All of my 1084 stock is quarter inch thick so I go either 15 or 11 to start with. The couple of times I’ve done it, I think I tripled it up to 45 then flipped it and crushed it on the edge. Then I went 4–4.

    Pattern welding Apex Ultra

That might be lower than the suggested max temp fo CruForgeV. You might want to see what Mr. Cashen has to say. I recall him saying that he forge welds at a lower temp than many. What is a DRO?

    Peddinghaus vs. Kanca

Because I have to move it myself. I would have preferred the Peddnghaus 110, but nobody seems to carry it in the US. You go from 77 to 165.

    Peddinghaus vs. Kanca

There had been some rumor about some Kanacas havng soft tops. From what I read, both are drop forged in two pieces and then welded together. 1045 type steel IIRC.

Nobody seems to have the 50 kg/110 lb Peddinghause. So would you guys go with the 35kg/77 lb Rigid-Peddinghaus or the 50 kg/110 lb Knaca?

    Stacked Leather Handles

Remember that if you put on pretty any dye that is yellow/tan/red/brown, it will eventually end up looking brown if you put enough on. I found that Brityish tan or light brown are the easiest to work with on leather and maple. Also if you want jet black, put down a coat of navy blue first then...
