If its spalted, or punky it will have dull finish. Put a couple coats of true oil on it to have a brighter finish.

That was the spot I was referring to. Instead of taking the hump out maybe you could move it forward, down? Round the point out some and see how it feels.

@Kevin Zito pointed out in his design he likes to keep the heel of the knife even with the ricoso. That is a design aspect he tries to keep in his knives. There has to be a good reason for it, and I would love to discuss it. His knife looks great, and obviously needs to be made. Kevin don't wait...

We come with free good stuff.

You can put another piece of wood under your material while drilling just make it's flat. Use a sharp bit, little pressure, and don't drill thru all at once. Lift your bit and let the swarf clear the hole before drilling again.

The hamon is there, at 600 grit you have to have it in just right light to see it. Thank you for the compliment.

That last picture is horrible, and when I try to delete it I get an error. So here are some better ones.

I've spent more time trying to fix this hamon then I have in the entire knife so far. I'm not sure what happened? Over etched at 220 grit, or maybe some banding? Either way it's going to have a 600 grit satin finish.

I have one side at 1000 grit, and the other side at a dirty 800 grit. Hopefully tonight I'll get a chance to do some etching. I usually try to get really crisp square plunges. This is my first attempt at more of a radius plunge. I like the way they are turning out.
