Cryo treating my blade at a later date

I don’t use or heat treat stainless steels so I might be talking out of turn here. I have however studied this topic to no small degree and have discussed it with a few who I consider quite knowledgeable on the topic. My understanding in simplified terms is that cold treatments/cryo are a...

    Nice simple hunter with Koa

Thanks Doug! There's a couple local gun shops that get them in fairly regularly here. There's plenty about Michigan that sucks. But we do have an abundance of gun shops around here and almost ALL ammo in any caliber is starting to be found pretty easily. But that doesn't mean it's cheap. And...

    Nice simple hunter with Koa

This is the latest hunter I just finished up. Forged from W1 steel. 4" blade, 8 1/2" overall. Crushed W's fluted collar. Stabilized koa handle. .22 short ammo was not included......it's worth as much as the knife. :D

    Damascus

I don't mind some low layer stuff. It can be neat if done/used right. But I know what you mean and generally agree.

    Damascus

You asked a very intelligent question. The steels used should have similar/compatible elemental chemistry and heat treating process/expansion & contraction rates. Unfortunately this isn't always given enough consideration by some. Damascus would be no better than its parent steels. I believe...

Your thoughts on the deep carry debate

I don't like clips. They catch on stuff, scratch stuff etc. They don't feel good in hand and they're kind of in the way at times. I put them on some of my knives because some folks have to have one.

    Wood for knife handles

Are you shopping for handle materials in the kitchen supplies aisle at Walmart? :D:p;)

What's going on in your shop?

I understand. Hope I didn't sound like I was hashing you. I'm not sure if that contributed to your grain issues or not. Yeah so monitor your temp as best you can. Try not to overheat. 80CrV2 would be a good steel for that oil you have and it's a pretty great steel. Cheaper to switch that than...

How are you measuring temperature? Also, AAA is not the best oil for 1084.

One of my all time favorite songs and artists. ⚠️WARNING: If you don't want anyone to see you shed a tear, might want to listen to this one when you're alone.

$900? Is that accurate? I'm pretty sure the contract I got was $500

What's going on in your shop?

Handles are usually 4 feet long to 7 feet long, but 7 feet is very long and unwieldy in a shanty and not common around here. Usually they're used with a wrist lanyard or cord.

What's going on in your shop?

Yep. Pike. That's about the right size spear for that. Typically Pike here are speared mid to high in the water column and the spear doesn't hit the bottom often....hopefully never.

Shop Music Thread- what are you listening to today?

Thanks for this one! New to me artist and I've just been listening to all his stuff. Bought a bunch of his digital music just now. Many of his songs and singing are stylistically reminiscent of Townes van Zandt, Steve Earle and Tom Petty.
