I have that mill (I think). Mine is a Rong Fu RF31 but it looks identical and I bet they're all made in the same shop. It's been pretty reliable and rigid and it's one of the bigger/heavier "benchtop" mills and that's a good thing. I don't have the DRO. Not sure I miss it. Probably nice but...

That particular one looks like it slips on from the handle end as nothing in the handle is wider than the shoulders where the guard seats. The other way to do it is with a framed handle.

Test one and see. I think it would be ok. If the welds are solid, it should act just like mono steel. You could also weld a thick billet so you get more reduction then split it and make two.

I can see a couple of things that I would tweak. Don't want to tell anyone what to do. But I'll mention if asked. But there is definitely decarb on that blade and post heat treat carbon steel blades need to be ground after clay quenching to get down to clean steel. Hand sanding with fine paper...

Dennis did you do any actual post heat treat grinding before that etch?.....or just some sanding at 320? And what austenitizing temp?
