    Railey’s KITH for DeMo (WIP)

That's a neat looking pattern. Can you share a bit about the can layout?

    Very thin slicer

I see the fish finder screen now. Yeah I got enough of this billet for 3 or 4 more blades and it wasn't a huge billet to start with.

What's going on in your shop?

I like that. But you wouldn't have to raise it that high even, if you didn't want to. I might try halfway between your original drawing and where it is now.

What's going on in your shop?

Looks pretty cool. I think it'd go from really great to outstanding if the point was raised just a bit and with a full height grind, in my unsolicited opinion.

    And just like that…

I wouldn't mind if I never felt a single flake of snow ever again. After spending the entirety of my life in Northern Michigan and Montana, and about to turn 43 next week, I've had enough snow and cold.

    Fun sharpness tests...

Here's some quick little vids of some fun sharpness tests. I don't think they mean much except your edge is pretty sharp with good geometry. But it's fun and hard to stop. First is some rolled up single phone book pages. Then a thick catalog. Then some single page slices. Make sure you swipe...

Man that's nice. I like that a lot.

    Very thin slicer

Yes, it will have a sheath.....not made by me. And that's the best part.

    Very thin slicer

Thanks Dennis. Yes....I quite often take something simple and make it difficult. :D:p

    Very thin slicer

I just finished this little knife up that I started over the holidays to just blow off some steam and kill time in between the various parties and outings. It is a very thin overall and thin edged pure slicer. It is made from .090" thick 1084/15n20 Damascus in a woodgrain pattern. 7" overall, 3...

    New forge

Thank you Doug. Looking forward to making a blade out of that. I've got some creative ideas to go along with it.

    New forge

First cut and restack is just a 60 grit belt finish. Everything after that I'd surface ground. The less reduction I will be doing (like on final weld), the finer finish and better fit I strive for. The dry weld thing isn't new and it isn't mine. Some of the highest end, top leaders in the...

    New forge

Flux will absolutely destroy those floor plates on that chili forge and it will happen quickly. I know from first hand experience.

    New forge

Just tacked on the ends. I've never welded/closed up seams all around. I absolutely hate wasting time grinding out weld. So I don't put weld in the first place anywhere I have to grind it out.

    New forge

These are all examples of my dry welds.....no flux, no kerosene, no grinding(except the burr off the 15n20), no cleaning, no wiping with acetone, no mill scale removal. Basically no prep.

    New forge

No Flux, no kerosene.....nothing. just stacked dry and welded.

    New forge

My forge runs 25-30 psi for forge welding. Me and my buddy did an interesting experiment: We layered up two identical billets. One we ground every piece clean and one we grabbed pieces right out of the box and did absolutely nothing to them. They both welded up perfectly. The only noticeable...

    New forge

You can ditch the Flux and kerosene altogether and just dry weld. I've had zero issues with weld flaws.
